Yesterday I posted about how I was

from the super clean and needs-nothing-whatsoever
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
, by a 2011 not-CPO BMW 335i xDrive coupe. Well, yeah, that’s not happening, and really I’m fine with this.
I talked with my gf (and soon-to-be fiance, shhhh don’t tell her yet guys I’m proposing on our vacation next week) about this 335i xDrive that I was thinking maybe I kinda want to check out in addition to the G37xS. She reacted forcefully , and not in a positive way.
She confessed that she really hates the image associated with BMWs, she doesn’t even like when I say the word “bimmer,” and when I had told her about my Infiniti deposit she started looking forward to not having me associated with that the BMW image any more. While we car folk think of G37 coupes as douchemobiles, I guess they don’t quite have the same stigma with the general public.
This particular G37xS is a more solid choice anyway. It has Japanese reliability, a proper sport suspension setup, big brakes, a rear LSD, a certified warranty, 12k less miles, 2 years newer, fresh brake pads, wiper blades, oil change, engine & cabin air filters, alignment, and brand new !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
The 335ix is $3k (or possibly more) cheaper, but it’s got the same damned infernal Bridgestone RE050A RFT run-flats that are on my 135is which I
hate,
and actually I was looking forward to having a car without those fucking tires on it. I hate them so much I would really have to go buy something else immediately. They suck, and new tires would put a big dent into the price difference with the G37xS.
If I wanted to check out the 335ix, it’s in a far northern suburb of Chicago, and the G37xS is in a southwest suburb of Chicago, an hour away from the place with the 335ix. The 335ix place is a big detour away from my route to the Infiniti dealer. Since I’m coming from Madison, WI, it’s a 2.5 hour drive just to the Infiniti dealer, and adding in another dealer visit and all the associated nonsense when I really should just stick with the G37xS, is more than I want to do with my Saturday.
So! Looks like tomorrow I’m getting that G37xS, as long as they give me a good enough trade offer on my 135is. Fingers crossed!

While both are boring, the Infiniti will be a car to last you 10-15 years.

Nice! Good cover image is good. The V12 Evos make great tires for the street, but I wouldn’t count on them on an autocross course, if that’s your thing.

Never ask permission lol. I traded a perfectly good and nearly brand new Jetta for an E90 M3 when my (now fiancee) was sure that the next big purchase was going to be an engagement ring. I’m sure she was upset, her mom was definitely upset, and I made it clear that I did not care at all what they thought of my awesome new car.
She stuck around, and I proposed 6 months later.
Congrats on both decisions either way!

“Japanese reliability”
A myth for Infiniti vehicles. Also, you will miss the torque of your old bimmer, and the refined/smooth nature of the BMW straight-6. The VQ V6 engine does not belong in a luxury car, and buzzes around near redline, and the ride in the G37x is nothing to write home about.

My wife encourages the looking at Chevelle SSs as she really wants one. After the heavy Chevy she wants to get a long nose 911/912 (when prices come down). Also I should get that Viper at some point. No more motos though, but it’s a fair trade. We also agree on everything. YMMV, DO NOT EXPECT THIS! lol

You are already learning the fine art of compromise. By which I mean you compromise what you want to keep your lady happy. I foresee a successful marriage in your future!

Infiniti Tech in 2008-2009 when these came out. Can confirm.
Hope you like replacing the radio when the interior fan only works on off or the highest setting possible.

I wouldn’t call this asking permission, more like I was trying to decide whether I really want to screw around visiting multiple dealers, so I asked other people their opinion, including her.
Also, I already have a ring ready to go!

Well hey, it’s not like I wouldn’t be happy with the G37xS, I wouldn’t have put a deposit on it in the first place if I didn’t already feel pretty decent about it.

There are tradeoffs with anything. The N55 is definitely a nicer motor.
But aside from the whole soon-to-be fiance apparently hating BMWs thing, the G37xS has a lot more stuff I like on it than the 335iX.
The base E92 sliding caliper brakes are way worse than the Brembo 6-piston front, 2-piston rear ones on my 135is. The G37xS has the same Akebono 4-piston front, 2-piston rear brakes as the upper 370Z trims.
Yes both cars are awd but the G37xS adds a rear LSD instead of the open diff in the 335i xDrive.
The 335i xDrive has the base, not sport, E92 suspension.
So to get the E92 where I’d really want it, I’d have to throw those RFT tires in the trash, buy shocks and springs, upgrade the brakes, and drop a couple grand on a rear diff.
The G is already for the most part set up how I like it, and doesn’t really need to be messed with. I’ll still mess with it at some point down the road but in stock form there’s a lot more I like about it.

So far I was thinking about wheel spacers, Swift lowering springs, taking off the front plate and having a body shop fill in the holes, color match the chrome trunk lid lip, and shaving the INFINITI lettering from the trunk.
No blacked out taillights though!

This wasn’t really a battle, I was leaning Infiniti anyway. If anything I was looking for someone to finish pushing me in that direction. ;)

I’ve successfully avoided being one of those BMW drivers for almost 3 years. I use my turn signals and everything!

Sure there are more exciting cars out there but my whole goal with this purchase is to get something that both scratches my itch for a sporty car while also being above average in winter. If I lived farther south or if I were keeping my Jeep for winter, I’d have way more options.

Autocrossing isn’t really my thing. I wouldn’t necessarily choose V12 evos if I were shopping for tires myself, but they’re good enough for me to be happy with them, especially since they’re brand new and already on the car.

I gotcha, permission was just an easy way to say...if you do it before you ask her opinion it wont be as bad as it would be if she told you she didn’t like it and then you bought it anyway. When I have my mind set on a vehicle I try to avoid talking about it with people that I am close with as I don’t want them to sway my decision even if its for the better.
Anyway congrats on popping the question! I had big plans to ask my fiancee. After I bought the ring I was so afraid that I would lose it in the days leading up to the proposal, that I walked her home from work the same night and proposed in front of a post office...
After I bought the ring I just kept taking it out of my pocket and thinking “man I could get a pretty flippin’ sweet car for this”.

So.. how did the G37 work out? I'm in a similar boat myself.. thinking about the G37S coupe/sedan. I hate mustangs.. but it irks me that I could get a 400+ hp V8 in a two year old car (Ford) for the same price as a 4-6 year old G37.

Never bought it, I got another BMW instead. If you click on my name you can see plenty of posts about it.
